“What a wonderful world” 2009
光の点滅を取り入れた平面作品や、カラフルなプラスチックの玩具などを変形、変容させた立体やインスタレーションなど、日常と非日常を交差させながら直接視覚に訴えるような華やかさと危うさが共存する作品を制作する田島秀彦氏。
今展では、最新のインスタレーション「What a wonderful world」に加え、新作の平面作品「Play room」の大作などを展示。インスタレーション「What a wonderful world」では、レトロ感のあるキッチュなテーブルクロス、中古品の食器やランプシェード、戦車や戦闘機のプラモデルから作られたカラフルな花が挿された花瓶などが、自作のテーブルを重ねた盤上に配置される。「どこにでもある日常のできごとやちょっと昔のできごと、そして架空のできごとのイメージが、等価値に折り重なるように立体的に展開する」。平面作品「Playroom」シリーズでは、古今東西のタイルの装飾模様がランダムに配された部屋の中で、おもちゃの戦争ごっこやテレビゲーム的なイメージが展開する。
