Isamu Wakabayashi (1936–2003): He consistently garnered attention as a leading sculptor representing Japanese contemporary art. His notable achievements include a solo exhibition at the Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Modern Art in 1973, participation in the Venice Biennale in 1980 and 1986, and major solo exhibitions at both the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, in 1987. In 2002, the year before his passing, a large-scale solo exhibition featuring new works was held at the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art.
At Kenji Taki Gallery, his solo exhibitions include: The Dog Revolves (Nagoya, 1999), Ally of Sulfur (Nagoya, 2000), Bark and Vacant Lot (Tokyo, 2001), Isamu Wakabayashi: New Works (Nagoya, 2002), and Copper / Arc (Tokyo, 2003).
