Arika Someya - Contour
2026.9.18 – 10.22

Kenji Taki Gallery Roppongi is pleased to present Contour, an exhibition by Arika Someya, opening on Friday, September 18.
The exhibition will feature works from the Decolor series – works created by bleaching velvet fabric to reveal imagery that emerges through the interplay of light and shadow – along with her new challenge titled Contour in the form of a book and also a selection of drawings.
The central theme of the new work, Contour, is transformation.
The underlying aim is to give birth to Pegasus from Gorgon.
I transformed the distorted contours of towering Brutalist architecture into an “inner contour” using the technique of axonometric projection, as if solving a puzzle.
Although it is “the same contour,” the perspective when looking up from below transforms into a perspective that recedes into the distance, and the convex and concave surfaces are reversed.
This time, I chose to realize this concept in the form of a book. Through the process of making it, I discovered something: while a book exists in this world as a physical object when closed, its interior is a space of infinite possibility – a realm where intangible things like fiction and mathematics reside.
This structure overlaps with the concept of “contour.”
