Presenting new and recent two-dimensional works. The exhibition will feature a new series of “Decolor” paintings, created by bleaching velvet, alongside a selection of drawings.

The new Decolor series, titled “third reverse,” is a sequence of works in which components from an identical silhouette are rearranged like blocks in a game. It is described as an attempt to create another way of being in this world—one that deviates from the linear spectrum of reality and non-reality.

There is a way of perceiving this world that suggests a third place exists for concepts and binary oppositions we otherwise take for granted—such as symmetrical images like mirror reflections, plus and minus, the front and back of a sheet of paper, or existence versus non-existence (including the question of what constitutes sameness). The works in this exhibition, Left inside Right, utilize this third rule like a puzzle or a game in an attempt to create another way for this world to be. (Arika Someya)
