Biography

1951 Born in Tsu, Mie Prefecture, Japan
1970–1972 Studied Spanish at Osaka University of Foreign Studies (currently Osaka University)
1973–1978 Moved to Spain and graduated from the University of Seville, Faculty of Fine Arts, majoring in painting
1979–1983 Resided in Zurich, Switzerland, and began her career as a professional artist, creating large-scale expressionist paintings and drawings
1985– Relocated to Germany; based in Cologne and later established a studio in Berlin
1991–2015 Served as a Professor at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK)
2014– Appointed as a Guest Professor in the Department of Painting (Japanese Painting Course) at Tama Art University
2021– Appointed as a Distinguished Professor at Vassar College, New York
Current Bases: Berlin and Cologne, Germany

2001 The 2nd Nuremberg Art Prize, Germany
2008 August Macke Prize, Germany
2013 The Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s Art Encouragement Prize, Japan
