Biography

  • 1951 Born in Tsu, Mie Prefecture, Japan
  • 1970–1972 Studied Spanish at Osaka University of Foreign Studies (currently Osaka University)
  • 1973–1978 Moved to Spain and graduated from the University of Seville, Faculty of Fine Arts, majoring in painting
  • 1979–1983 Resided in Zurich, Switzerland, and began her career as a professional artist, creating large-scale expressionist paintings and drawings
  • 1985– Relocated to Germany; based in Cologne and later established a studio in Berlin
  • 1991–2015 Served as a Professor at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK)
  • 2014– Appointed as a Guest Professor in the Department of Painting (Japanese Painting Course) at Tama Art University
  • 2021– Appointed as a Distinguished Professor at Vassar College, New York
  • Current Bases: Berlin and Cologne, Germany
