14 November – 19 December

KENJI TAKI GALLERY Nagoya is pleased to present KaroTosen, a group exhibition featuring works by Sakuji Yoshimoto and four artists who studied under him, opening on Saturday, 14 November.

KaroTosen—a summer hearth and a winter fan.

The phrase is referring to things that seem out of season and useless at first glance.

Under the title of this phrase, this exhibition presents the works of Sakuji Yoshimoto, who has continued his artistic practice for nearly half a century, alongside four artists who studied under him and continue their own creative pursuits: Mizuki Hatakeyama, Kimiko Torisu, Anju Shimoie, and Yuki Saegusa.

In today’s society, where efficiency and practicality are highly valued, these artists remain unconstrained by such values and the prevailing trends of the times, quietly focusing on their daily artistic practices.

Transcending differences in generation and artistic approach, we invite you to discover where these five artists stand today as they continue along their individual paths.
